Children's Dentistry

Millions of adults are fearful of dental visits, but where does this anxiety originate?

Dental anxiety in adults can often be traced back to an unhappy experience with the dentist in childhood. The unfortunate result is skipped dental appointments and poorer oral health that starts a cycle that can last long into adulthood.

At Terrace Creek Dental Care, we are determined to provide a more positive outcome. Dr. Kathryn Jagow understands that relating to a child on his or her level helps them gradually realize that dentistry can be a fun and interesting adventure. We know that each child has a unique personality, and our dental team loves taking the time to get to know each and every one of them.

Children's Dentistry in a Warm, Welcoming Environment

We provide happy visits, preventative care, kids cleanings, information on their oral health, and what to expect as your child grows.

As children become more mobile, it's common for them to take a fall and suffer dental trauma. We treat children's dental emergencies at our Mountlake Terrace dental office, because, with prompt attention, we can help us avoid long-term consequences to their oral health.

If your child develops a cavity, we will treat it promptly with a tooth-colored filling. Baby teeth may be temporary, but it's essential to keep them healthy and intact until they're ready to come out on their own. If your child is very apprehensive or needs extensive dental work, we offer safe nitrous oxide sedation that helps them relax and won't cause any lasting drowsy side effects.

Your child will get to enjoy all the same amenities as you. With movies and cartoons on our ceiling-mounted TVs and pillows and blankets for their comfort, our goal is to help give kids a comfortable, positive experience. We also have stickers, stuffed animals, and fun kids' toothbrushes to help give them a great visit.

Your Child's First Dental Appointment

Based on the guidance of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Jagow recommends that your child's first dental visit in Mountlake Terrace takes place when they get their first baby tooth or by their first birthday at the latest.

When we introduce your child to dental care, we'll keep things simple and move at their pace. The first few appointments are typically devoted to helping your little one become acclimated to the experience of being in a new environment.

Dr. Jagow also uses this opportunity to answer your questions, show you how to help brush your child's teeth correctly, and provide nutrition counseling. If you have concerns about habits like bottle feeding, thumb-sucking, or pacifier use, we'll be happy to address those with you too.

As your child gets more confident and comfortable with us, we'll start to incorporate teeth cleanings and preventive treatments like fluoride applications and dental sealants into their appointments. If we spot anything that concerns us, we'll let you know right away and partner with you to create an appropriate treatment plan to protect your little one's precious smile.
